6 volt suggestions

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'll be keeping/returning my 67 1600-2 6 volt. I'm in the process of getting it back on the road, it has a 12 volt alternator so it  looks like someone started but didn't finish converting it to 12 volt.

So does anyone have a 6 volt generator that didn't make it into the neighbors pool? Can a generator or starter be rebuilt to produce/be more powerful?

No battery in the car, anyone know of a 6 volt battery that fits?

Thanks,

Barrett

A group 17 or 19 6V battery should fit.  They were used on 6V Volkswagens and should't be terribly hard to find.  If a Group 1 will fit (take all 3 measurements) they can be bought at any agricultural supply place (Rural King, Tractor Supply etc) as that's a common size for old tractors.

And IIRC most of the pieces of a 6V VW generator will fit into the carcass of a 1600 generator, and also IIRC the voltage regulator is the same.
