Hi All

I'm looking to shed some light in whether the door cards between models are the same or changed in '73 along with the other upgrades : )

I wanted refresh mine but I feel they are too far gone and wondered about replacing them? thanks in advance

They're different between 73' and 74'.  The earlier model years had a double chrome strip, vs the single chrome strip for the 74' on, among other minor changes.

AFAIK, the ‘fiberboard’ panels beneath the viny/trim is the same across years. I’ve seen replacements in both fiberboard and plywood if you’re looking to move your trim to new panels.

awesome !! it answers both my questions really!!

I have speakers cut into mine and a door pocket too but the reality is the clips at the lower edges are pulled through the fibre board and the hole cut in them doesnt help.

I need a new boards so I think ill go shopping :)

thanks for the replies !!

and a door pocket too

I thought door pockets only came on the 73-75 Euro Lux models. ( along with different upholstery with cord/velour, wood door capping, and wood fascia  behind the ashtray, front seat head restraints, leather rimmed steering wheel, dipping rear view mirror, inertial safety belts, intermittent wash-wipers and more).

Would you happen to have an L on the left handled edge of your rear 2002 badge? Do you have any of these other Lux package features?

BMW following their parts bin engineering  used the door pockets off of the e3 line and they can be added to 02 door cards

I have spent the last hour checking if I have any of the Lux edition items ...... only head rest (from that list )

but this is a Portuguese model and they come with a lot of variances - I have seen various '02 for sale between '71-early '73 with square rear lights??

im certain its more to do with the parts bin theory and not the Lux model I'm afraid

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
