Mudflap installation guide?

200two

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Recently joined the 02 community with my new purchase. I have a pair of mud-flaps for my 74, same as the ones pictured below. For some reason I cannot figure out how they are supposed to mount. For those who have done it before do you have any insights? Thanks

They look like the later style 2002 flaps (part 72 60 1 805 067). I assume you’re missing the orange instructions sheet…

You can search to see how others have them fitted, but this pic grabbed from the instructions should help. (I haven’t seen the instructions posted separately.)

The orange instruction sheet doesn't make it clear, but IIRC the bolt holes you must drill go through the flange that hangs down--where the inner fender well joins the trunk floor--not through the fender well into the trunk.

Mike, I'm certain i didn't drill any holes when installing factory mud flaps on my 71. I'll try and get some pics of how they're installed this afternoon.

The clam-shell hardware sandwiches the metal body flange between them - no holes drilled.

Good to know.  The few mud flaps I've seen must not have been the factory ones, as they did require holes--why I never wanted 'em...hole=rust spot.

thanks for the correction, guys.  I learned something new today!
