And I an the plane heading home. This was a lot of fun. Well worth the trip. One day I will drive herw.

It was great to meet a the people that do not get to see on the west coast. And great to catch up with those that I do.

Everyone I'd very friendly. Very good looking cars and great to see how far people drive to this event.

Stretched over a few days, the event is very relaxed for goers with plenty of things to do. Some are.orfonized and for some some. You are on your own.

See you all next year. I hope.

Another very excellent MidAmerica02Fest. Bo, Barb and the entire team really do put on a fantastic event. Thank you all for making it great.

I got the ‘71  unpacked and in the garage.

Almost 1400 miles since Wednesday morning. Longest run on one tank was 265 miles and put 9.9 gallons in it for almost 27 mpg. That’s blasting 75-80mph with side drafts, 5 speed and 3.91 LSD. I’m happy with that.

So many good pictures posted here and fazebook. Thanks for posting.

Ron Rinke took this one last night… fantastic shot.

Thanks again, everyone.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our own fearless leader @steve k. for making the long trip to spend the weekend with us.  Thank you for all the FAQ swag donations and kind words.  Steve spoke to the group on Friday night and gave us all a peek behind the curtains to see what all goes on to make this site the greatest car forum on the web.  ...what a ton of work this man does for our benefit!!!

It was a pleasure to meet you and spend time talking '02s.  Hope you can make the event again.

This trip was a lot of fun, and I will be back. Meeting so many new people and putting faces to the usernames is always great. I usually do something at our local events, so it is hard to have meaningful conversations. Being free to roam around has advantages.

I did not know precisely what I would talk about to the group and if I had enough material on the history to fill the 45-minute timeslot. The reception was so great that it took close to 75 minutes, and Bo stood and glared at me, trying to get me off the stage.

It looks like people enjoyed seeing some features that were not familiar to them, mostly how our databases are integrated.  And a good talk about what happens in the background to prevent spam and scam.

Maybe I can do the same talk online one of these days. It will let me test a cool feature I want to use.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
