1971 BMW 2002 Malaga $14,800. SOLD

Description:

Presented is a 1971 BMW 2002, VIN 2577610 built for North American market.Car is finished in its original Malaga color. The repaint however does not match the original 

perectly (close though).  The body has some small areas of rust.  These include the door corners and surface rust in various areas. There is no rust through on the body. The under

body is very good with no floor or front subframe deterioration.The engine has been replaced with a later 2002 engine #2371997 indicates from a 1976 2002.

 and transmission has been upgraded to a 5-speed manual. The original front seats have been replaced with later style Recaro sport seats.Seats and door cards do not have any 

tears and are  presentable for a daily driver.

 

Under the current ownership, the following work was recently completed in preparation of the sale.

 

•  Front and rear brake service including new front discs and rear drums and cylinders. The front calipers were rebuilt and the lines replaced. Along with this service the brake

    fluid was changed using DOT 4 Ate fluid.

•  Front wheel bearings 

•  Oil change service with filter

•  Cleaning and adjusting carburetor 

•  New OEM fuel lines from tank to carburetor 

•  Replacing of the distributor cap, rotor and spark plug wires 

•  Rocker panel repair and repainting. The outer rockers had a small amount of rot in front of the rear wheels.  This was repaired using welded steel pieces.

    The inner rockers only had surface rust and were treated with rust inhibitor and zink paint.

•  The driver side door check was replaced 

•  The exterior paint was wet sanded and buffed

•  Spare tire well had a few small rust holes (size of dime or smaller) that were repaired and the area repainted 

•  The door cards were replaced using good used cards

•  The radio was replaced using a new Blaupunkt Irvine unit that includes Bluetooth/MP3

•  Various missing small parts were also replaced

•  The interior and trunk were thoroughly cleaned and refreshed

Please understand that my post was coming from a bitter, sore loser - ha ha.  I contacted the previous owner first, but was then essentially ghosted because of all the "overwhelming interest" in the car.  It was certainly worth more than $3,500, and I am sure the current owner paid above that.  It was explained to me that the previous owner sold it to the current owner because he was happy it was staying in the area (SW Michigan).  I am right across the lake and was hoping to give this car a permanent home (and still in the same region).  So again, my comments are jaded.  

 

That said, from the seller's description and photos, a list of work and minor rust remediation was performed on the car over the past 4 months.  I don't doubt the new price is in line.  I just wish the previous owner would have honored contact time over locality given the car is clearly not staying "in the area".
