Original 2002 ti steering wheel question?

Recommended Posts

Hey Steve! Here are some edits/ideas:

Manufacturer (drop down)

Model (free text)

BMW Part Number (free text) *I think free text here to include part# or if it was aftermarket

Size (drop down)

BMW Model (possibly drop down)

Year range (free text)

Grip (drop down)

Hub (free text)  *this could be a lot of variables i.e. hub part numbers for different models, sizes, etc.

PCD (drop down)

Horn Button (drop down)

Country of Origin?  (drop down)

Description (free text)

Question, if other is selected would I be able to include free text?

This should be a good start! Once I begin entering some I can see if there is any other info we need. Just let me know.

Thanks! John

Hey @steve k.,

How about something like what you did with the 'wheels database' or like here on bimmertips.com? https://bimmertips.com/bmw-e30-steering-wheel-options-specs/

Here would be my preferred list:

   Wheel model name (free text)

   Manufacturer (drop down)

   OEM part number (free text)

   Steering wheel size (free text)

BMW model used on (drop down)

   Year range (free text)

   Country of origin?  (drop down)

   Notes (free text)

(*this could be a lot of variables i.e. hub part numbers for different models, sizes, hub PCD, horn button, etc.)

I can get started on this as soon as you let me know what you need. Thanks!

Things that are drop downs can be filtered, free text cannot be. I can do size as a drop down with options in mm and inches.  I'll need to drop down options for others so I can add them.

like the flat horn, but I already have one and only one ti to put it on...the spokes are surprisingly good on yours, I think mine had stopwatches mounted with clips that scratched the spokes... so yours would be a nice "patinated" example by just re-wrapping it.

… What is PCD?…

Steve,

PCD = pitch circle diameter (used for rims [wheels] and steering wheel hubs)

It’s the diameter of a circle drawn through the centerlines of the bolt holes. For rims, it also references the number of bolt/stud holes. I’m guessing it might be the same for steering wheels, but I’m not a steering wheel guy!

Example: “4 x 100” is the correct PCD for an ‘02 rim.

Thanks, as always, for all you do!

Best regards,

Steve C.

The PCD is helpful mostly with aftermarket wheels, but it can also tell you that a Momo wheel won’t fit a Petri hub for example.

Below we see that a Momo hub needs a 6x70 PCD to align properly with a Momo steering wheel. So, a Nardi hub with a 6x74 PCD is not compatible with a Momo steering wheel.

I wish I had pics...in 1977 I had a faded red 69 1600.... no headrests.  I can remember the steering wheel big as a school bus!  It had an original radio had one vacum tube!  When I had 'Sultans of swing" blasting it would pulse red....  I bought it from a german car mechanic drove it while he was restoring a mercedes 6.9!  He taught me how to double-clutch, syncros shot. Thing would chirp the tires in 3rd gear.   It was the first of 4 I had, I still have the 76' I bought on block island in 84.  It has a tiny Nardi 13" wheel.  Search brought me to this page, I want to go back to a big wheel!
