Trivia - Dealers in Manhattan - 1976

Who were the Manhattan BMW dealer (s) in 1976?

 

I think I remember "Trans Atlantic Motors" on the west side.

Then there was Manhattan BMW  on Park...

 

Either of those sound right... Were there others?

 

Bought my '02..... but can't remember who.

 

I know it wasn't Hoffman.  ( Great discussion ...btw).

My ‘76 (VIN 2742541, manufactured April 23, 1976) came with a version of the BMW Service booklet dated March 30, 1975 (“30. III. 75”).

 

According to that version of the listing, there were two BMW car dealerships in Manhattan:

 

1. Trans Atlantic Motor Car Ltd.

    605 6th Avenue

 

2. Martin Motor Sales Inc.

    1274 2nd Avenue

 

Jara Motors, 225 West 61st Street, was authorized for service.

 

In Brooklyn, Life Quality Motor Inc,, 940 Remsen Avenue, was the only BMW car dealership. And on Staten Island, Bel-Aire Motors Inc., 421 Richmond Avenue, was the only BMW car dealership.

 

So that sounds like 4 car dealerships in NYC as of March 1975 — if the listing is complete and correct!

Was Bavarian Motors on Northern Blvd in Queens still in business by '76?  That's where I bought my '69--May delivery of a Feb production car.

I didn’t see any entries with Queens or Bronx labels, Mike, but I’ll double check for Bavarian Motors.

I’m glad you asked the question. I did a crappy job of reporting ca. 1975 NYC dealerships last night! ?

 

I largely failed to recognize that not every dealership is listed under their borough name; some are listed under their neighborhood name. And... I completely missed a Bronx dealership as well as a second, Bronx, location for Martin Motor Sales.

I still have the May (I think) 1969 dealer listing that came with my '69, and the mid-year 1973 copy that came with my '73.
