I have an overflow bottle from an 80's Japanese car, it's small so it fits perfectly behind the driver's headlight on the radiator support without blocking airflow. Never had a problem and like that I can check it without removing the cap like the chrome ones.

I have also found that a stock or e21 radiator will not puke more coolant than it should

(12% sounds like what I've seen, too) and that while the modern 'completely full'

system is far better for oxidation, it's only needed for cooling in marginal situations.

IF you check your coolant weekly, like you used to have to do back in 1965.

I ziptied a small coolant overflow tank to the underside of the battery tray (battery in trunk).

Since I autoX and do track day stuff, this is generally required. I've never seen a drop of coolant in it, however.
