Key Stuck

Alex Bristow

Recommended Posts

My key was stuck due to improper passenger side lock mechanism adjustment after the door was reassembled. After getting the key stuck at OktoberFest in Pittsburgh and having to remove the seats to remove the door card in Kitchener Ontario and at The Hilton Head Concours. Vintage Sports and Restoration removed and rebuilt both mechanisms so both sides work perfectly now.

Agree with Mike, clean and lubricate the mechanisms on both sides.

This happened to me (except it was in the lock position :( ).

Like others said it was because the little tab (at the back of the lock cylinder) swung out of the channel on the door lock assembly. Then it gets wedged up against the side of it, not allowing you to turn it back.

I believe, the blog someone posted above was what i found after breaking my key.

OK.. added to my TO-DO list.. keep two door/ignition keys on my key chain. Then if both doors are locked and key gets stuck/jammed in one door I can at least use other key to open other door.

Yeah I was able to get it out and saw where it went past while unlocking. How much of a pain is it to take out the entire mechanism and clean and then reinstall?
Worst part is removing the door panel, after that everything comes apart and is fairly straight forward.
