They are currently on my project car. Sorry for the bad pics of two of the wheels. The car is very close to the garage wall.

These are period early OEM alloys (introduced ca. April 1971), which have become quite rare. They were manufactured by FPS, as are the modern versions. But “FPS” is cast into the rear face of the original period versions, such as these, versus the front face of the modern versions. These are dated 1973, although I can’t make out the month in these photos (1 to 12 of the boxes should be “filled in” with a tiny nub of aluminum alloy).

I’m fairly confident FPS did not make a version of these for FIAT (4x98). But Cromodora certainly made a similar style rim, frequently fitted to FIAT’s, that likely served as the model for BMW’s early OEM alloys. The Cromodora design pre-dates the BMW design by years.

By the by, these are 5” x 13” rims (that’s “5JX13 H2”, “J” designating the rim profile, and “H2” designating the barrel has double humps to reduce the possibility of breaking the bead under severe cornering).

And there is no particular link between these rims and the tii sub-models.  In the U.S., they were a dealer accessory for all ‘02 models. Well...the rich guys who could afford tii’s probably bought a lot more of them... ?

Here’s the entry in a ca. 1972 U.S. BMW dealer accessories brochure: the “BMW Light Alloy Road Wheel....For your BMW 1602 or 2002”.

GLWS
