Yup, if people don't go...it won't be a success. I was also bummer to find out after I got an 02 (not running just yet) that virtually no one goes to the bi monthly Pomona car shows either. Plenty of vWs and American iron..

I guess the only place to check out nice 02's is the Vintage in Oct or Nov?

Bummer.....I know there's a ton here in SoCal.

ZMO, I just don't want to go.  It was fun, even as a vendor, up till about the switch to Fontana.

If you'd like to get out and enjoy driving your 2002 with fellow vintage bimmer guys down here, then sign up for the mailing list (or just stay tuned to the facebook page) of the SoCalVintageBMW Club.  In fact, there's an event this coming Saturday.

If getting out and seeing 2002's race is more your cup of tea, then check the VARA schedule.  There are always a bunch of 2002's going head to head with Alfa's, Datsuns, etc.

There are a TON of 02's in SoCal, five in my neighborhood alone and many in the adjoining cities. I would be all for a 02 get together BBQ again.

Funny you should bring this up. I go to The Pomona car show and swap about 4-5 times a year.  i love going but it was much more fun when I had a 911 and Porsche parts were readily available. I like to see the collection of things i could possibly use or adapt.  I am considering selling 320i, 323i and 2002 parts their next fall. I wont be employing any booth bunnies to move my stuff fast but i can be entertaining to talk too.  Those cars I have been dismantling will fund my own 1600-2 project. I know its a pipe dream but an 02 gathering in the for show lot is something i think would be fun. The VW guys do it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
