1972 BMW 2002 Tii

I'm putting my 1972 Tii up for sale, too many projects.. It is an early model 2760156, so it has the plastic intake runners and other early features.  Was originally a VA car, came to Massachusetts in ~1991, as a running and driving car, been inside ever since (never on the road in Massachusetts).  It is Tiaga color (green).  I have a Title.  Best part about the car is it is 99% rust free, floors are perfect! usual problem areas are perfect.  Never been hit (original non-snorkel nose), etc.  original 5 steel Tii wheels, (new tires), matching numbers body and engine, car is original and unmolested, and complete.

Now the bad, when I got the car it had been started to be taken apart as it was going to be painted, well you know that story, it didn't get painted and was left apart.  So the exterior trim and lights are off the car, the rest of the car is still together.     Since I got it, I cleaned and sealed the gas tank, changed all fuel hoses, the fuel filters and got it running.  ( I have video of it running from yesterday in fact). But, it was puffing a little white smoke, so I started to pull the head to change the head gasket.  I just don't have the time to deal with it right now... I have two race cars that I also maintain.  price is $5000.  needs paint, needs new carpet, original headliner is good, drivers seat is ripped (other seats are perfect), and needs to be put back together, brakes and clutch still seem to work.... But the car has been sitting 25 years, so assume everything needs to be looked at.  Price is firm, I won't take any less.  PM me if interested...  I will give you my phone number and we can talk.  Car is located in Western Massachusetts.  Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

I PM'd you yesterday per your request, so I didn't respond on this thread (If you are speaking to people in order of their inquiries-please let me know where I fall). Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing some pics!

That's both a very early U.S. tii AND a rare (and desirable) color!  I predict you'll have no trouble finding it a new home.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
