electrical and ignition IE Mechanical Advance Distributor

Just pulled the trigger on the IE Distributor for my '73 2002 with current bosch vac. advance unit. Good move? Give me your opinion.

Which carburetor(s) are you running?

 

If you are replacing a worn out sloppy distributor with a ruptured vacuum diaphragm and weak mechanical advance springs, or sticking centrifugal weights... then yes, I would call a fresh unit a good move.

 

I am personally partial to vacuum advance on a single carb-ed car though.  Assuming it is in good working order.

 

Some people have had trouble in the past with trying to get the IE unit to seal.  Double o-rings, or wrong sized o-rings were the problem and may have been corrected by IE.

I have the IE. Been running it for a couple months and it has been a great upgrade so far. No issues whatsoever.

I run a weber 38/38 on a stock rebuilt engine with a stahl header/ IE stainless exhaust.

I have been running the IE distributor on Vern, my Tii, since May of 2013 with no issues.

I installed one on the F Bomb (she's a tii, so proper ignition advance curve is crucial) and found it to be flawless (I mapped out the advance curve, using an adjustable timing light, just to be sure). The only reason I sold it, was because I had my original unit (008) rebuilt. No issues with sealing or fitment. If I wasn't all nutty about keeping my car mostly original, I'd have kept it.
