So my motor usually starts easily, yesterday I cleaned the motor and of course lost the spark.

I blew out any moisture from the distributor

Put on a fresh cap and rotor, let it sit in the sun 5 hrs, while I changed out the sunroof cables

Power to coil

Power to points

Pulled the plugs and no spark

Any suggestions?

When you say you have "power" to the points, do you mean +12 volts, or plug voltage?  Did you try checking the high tension lead that runs from the coil to the dizzy cap?  Did you make sure there's no moisture inside the rubber cap at the coil end?  

 

If you have high voltage at the distributor and you know the cap and rotor are good, then it boils down to the plug wires.  If you don't have high voltage at the distributor, then I'd suspect either the coil itself or the high tension coil wire.

Thanks for the replies. As to voltage, yes to 12V, including the internal cap center lead. But no Spark.

I also tried just the coil lead to block I found 12v but no spark.

Sounds like your coil has done a header...it's been my experience that coils either work or they don't--i.e. they don't gradually give up the ghost, but suddenly fail.  It doesn't happen very often, but it's certainly not an unknown failure.  

 

If you have or can borrow a spare coil, I'd substitute and see if that cures the problem...

Mike thanks for the Input.

 

I spoke with the support at Ireland Eng. and Purchased/Replaced  so far:

 

Cap

Rotor

Condenser

Coil

 

The motor turns over like a champ but still no Spark.

The Coil harness shows 11.7- 12V on the Multi Meter.

When I turn on the Ignition the voltage on the Coil terminals is at 10.6V (Bosh Blue internal resistance)

When I crank the starter it drops to 7.6V, I've been told I need 8.5-10V for spark

 

Tonight I'll try jumping to my "modern" car to see if the battery is just tired, only it cranks the starter over very strongly

 

A fellow 02'r loaned me a few electrical parts to also swap out and see if the voltage drop is Hardware related.
