The ground at the voltage regulator is attached by a sheet metal screw into the left front fender.  Notoriously bad ground.  I cleaned the contact and through-bolted mine.  Voila gas gauge stopped bouncing.

 

Also you could remove your instrument cluster and add a ground to the back side and connect to the ground on the firewall.

 

Lastly, check the ground at the fuel  tank.

 

Quite possible those 3 things will stop the erratic gauge.

Found the problem, sending unit went bad, found one at a junk yard for 20 bucks, and it WORKS.

 

Also bought a headlight switch from the same car for 10 bucks, cured my #8 fuse blowing problem that has been troubling me for the past couple of months. My electrical issues are OVER (for now).

 

Also installed my "vanity" plates, (I live off of Highway 1 here in Cali)
