Stealth Led 3Rd Brake Lights

I was looking at doing this same thing, but I thought there would be too much light that spills into the cabin. Is your unit sealed to the glass to stop the spillover?

Brendan

I use side lights for the 2002. All the light is sent backwards and does not fill the rear of the car with light. In fact I can' see the light at all from the inside.

I notice in your picture you have your lights fitted to an 02 with the air extraction slot at the trailing edge of the headliner (that opening in your pix just above the light assy).  Sunroof cars don't have that opening as the air extraction pipes are plugged.  Will your light assy fit those cars as invisibly?  You might want to check out a sunroof car to see what I'm talking about.

Looks like a very neat solution to the problem.

cheers

mike

The short answer is yes, they will be equally nearly invisible on both sunroof and non-sunroof cars. Vern is a sunroof car. The lights stick to the rear window gasket, so it doesn't matter if it's a sunroof car or not.

i think iam going to cut the aligator clips off and put flag connectors on

thanks again

they are bright

edit               if you could  ship them in cardboard so the light strip stays flat they will stick really good.

When I was experimenting with these strips, there was very little visible spill; you may see more if your rear window is dirty, but due to the angle of the window and the proximity of the strip, the primary reflections are all well below the driver's sightline.

To put it a different way - no, as long as your rear window is reasonably clean you won't be blinded by these lights in your rearview mirror.

This is a great solution and a bit cheaper than what I came up with. Wish you had posted this before I went and made my own. To keep the light reflecting out the back I put the light strip inside a black painted plastic electric cord molding tube that I picked up at a hardware store, and then cut off 1/3 of the circumference to direct the light out the back. Stuck the entire unit to the upper rear gasket. Yours looks even more discreet, and more professional too. Nice job.
