1972 02 Project for sale

Looking to part ways with my 72 02' project. Unfortunately I've come to the realization that my time is limited I don't want this project to sit around forever taking space in my garage. I purchased the car in mostly original condition about 2 years ago; it was running rough and will need an engine rebuild. My plans were to rebuild/modify not to original condition therefore I've been buying parts randomly that would be suitable to my plans. The car was stripped by me and only has the engine, tranny and rear glass still on but I kept all the original pieces that were removed. It was missing the front bumper and some of the exterior trim when I bought it but I've gotten a recondition bumper since. Some of the parts that I bought in the last two years;

Zender front spoiler

Black Recaro front seats

E24 rear seats (I was planning on doing the rear seat conversion)

New pedal box with pedals and associated hardware

New carpet

IE aluminum radiator

Front door panels (new from Roger tii, in the last two weeks $650)

Extra front fender (driver side)

Used spare wheel well (I removed the old one since it was rusted)

extra gas tank (used, great condition)

Extra set of door panel backing (wood)

Other misc parts that need to be inventoried

Other items worth mentioning; hood is in good shape but it will need the trunk lid since the current could be fixed but you will be better off finding another one. The pasenger side door looks it was replaced at some point. The rust in the car is minimum considering the age, around the pedal box, very little at the bottom of one fender and some small spots in the rocker panels. Floor boards are in great shape and so are the shock towers. I will throw in a one owner 1975 02' that was given to me recently, I was hoping to restore this one to original condition but it has rust in all the wrong places (shock towers, etc) therefore it will make a nice donor car (it was recently listed in the Tejas Chapter) Finally, the reason for posting here is hoping that someone in the area will be interested since I have no plans on assisting with shipping because of my limited free time. Also it would be easier to inspect and make sure I am being accurate with my description. I will consider parting out as last resort... Thanks!

(Not sure how successful I'll be posting pics but feel free to ask and I will e-mail as many as needed)

Second in line for the Recaros. Maybe other parts as well.

How much were you asking for the car?

Considering that most of the original parts removed are still available + extra parts + donor car I would like to get $2500 but I will consider any reasonable offers... BTW here is a pic of the last one I restored over 10 years ago, painted Calypso Red next to Bert's 02

If you do decide to part out, I am interested in the Recaro seats, and maybe some odd parts.

I just bought a Touring and need some functioning seats.

thanks,

Where are you located?

I only know of two Tourings in Texas, and I have one of them.

thanks,

I replaced mine about 7~8 yrs ago when the bloody hatch fell on me. It was a bugger to get back out.

I bought them from Walloth & Nesch in Germany, and have since bought a pair for spares when they had them on sale.

Part # 51 24 1 803 128

Currently they are 44Euro each ($57).

My normal (cheap as you can get) place in the US has them for $64 each.

I keep a record of all 02s, please email me your VIN, exterior colour. I know of 55 Tourings in the US, so I may already have it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
