e28 steering box

I m looking into converting my steering to power. I know that people have done conversions to e21 rack and pinion but I was wondering if a powered steering box could be fitted

would a box out of an e28 fit?

Or any other power steering box from any other car?

You could check out the electric power steering , they do a unit for ford escorts , try google see how you go . This has also been discussed on here before , try site search .

an E28 steering box weighs about as much as a M10 cylinder head !

the trend with 1600 - 2002's is to REMOVE stuff.

Not ADD weight, hoses, wires, another component

to maintain or fail, leak, buzz, rattle, rob power

and performance, and upset the nice light balance

it was born with.

unless your missing an arm or hand - why think such a thing?

just get the complete E28 -

PLUS the oil res, hoses, pully, belt, mods....

I Agree about extra weight and more complications but my steering box needs replacement anyway plus the engine (M42) I will be installing already has a pump so ...

The question is does anyone know if it would fit?

Short answer is NO it won't fit, the mounting points on a e28 are nothing like a 2002. If you are a good fabricator I'm guessing you could modify your front crossmember and use it but if you are that kind of guy you most likely would not have asked the question.
