an E28 steering box weighs about as much as a M10 cylinder head !

the trend with 1600 - 2002's is to REMOVE stuff.

Not ADD weight, hoses, wires, another component

to maintain or fail, leak, buzz, rattle, rob power

and performance, and upset the nice light balance

it was born with.

unless your missing an arm or hand - why think such a thing?

just get the complete E28 -

Short answer is NO it won't fit, the mounting points on a e28 are nothing like a 2002. If you are a good fabricator I'm guessing you could modify your front crossmember and use it but if you are that kind of guy you most likely would not have asked the question.
