Paint Pen on Intrument Cluster?

Looking to re-silver the trim around my instrument cluster (similar to as shown in this photo http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,download/id,65516/) & thinking about using a silver paint pen. Has anyone else done this? If so, how did it work out? Any pointers?

separate parts from the cluster housing; they can be removed and repainted with dull silver spray paint. As for the silver trim around the edge of the housing--I just took some silver model airplane enamel and a small brush and carefully painted it. That was at least 15 years ago and it still looks nice.

If you use a paint pen, make sure the paint is enamel, not lacquer. Lacquer will attack the plastic; enamel won't.

I did these with a paint pen

I removed them and painted with chrome spray paint. Ended up quite nice.
