Removing sending unit? How to?

Ok guys.

Decided to clean out my fuel tank on my 1971 2002, as the car sat many years after restoration

Looked in the trunk briefly last week to check and attempt to remove the sending unit. I turned it and pulled it up, to find it hard to pull all the way off, and gripping the tank, like it got larger at the bottom?

Is there a trick to this, or is it a junk grip it and rip it situation?

Thanks

On my '69 2002, there was a coarse filter at the bottom of the sender that was pressed on and the ring was just a little bit bigger in diameter than the sender and hing up a bit during removal. Wiggle and twist the last bit and it should come loose. It is pretty common for it to come off during removal and need to be fished out of the tank. Best if the tank is empty when starting.
