Hi Pat -

I am not sure about best deals but that Pertronix price seems about right.

I wanted to put my 2 bits in that I recently switched from Pertronix to Hotspark on my 2 cars (after 10 years of excellent performance it started to get a little flaky) just to see the difference (25+ bucks cheaper too). I actually prefer the fit of the Hotspark over the Pertronix and it is exactly the same so far in terms of running characteristics.

Just random comments.

i tested various pertronix units and had feedback from users of my tune box, report is that pertronix shoot about 56-60 deg. of dweel angle while the hot spark unit on my Automatic 02 merely makes 20 deg.

theoreticaly and electronicaly speaking, the coil is much less saturated on the hot spark unit. that could be translated to less spark at the end so this is what i am to test/measure.

Amazon.com has the 1847V for $74.44 with free shipping.

in usa only, canada has different shiping policies. not sure they have it at all.

That is good info! I have no doubt you are right and will be interested in seeing your final test numbers.

From a seat of the pants performance test, they feel pretty much identical but there could be many variables in my testing (atmospheric conditions and gas come to mind).

Cheers,

Hotspark is working good for me in a 008 disty . 50 bucks and free ship on ebay.

dont get me wrong, mine "works" too, i just dont like the fact that i know the dweel angle is so different and out of tolerances, even if its electronic.

i just want to get academic testing and measurements on thoses.

thanks.

I hear you, you got me thinking if I may have some issues from the dwell angle. by the way can I purchase the diagnostic box you made? how much and where do I send my money.

pardon any grammatical errors in my posts, im probably on my cell phone.

Just out of interest. Are the coils different between 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder cars?

Since a 6 would have a lower dwell angle, perhaps it is still enough time to saturate the coil?

I thought that one of the big advantages of these kind of electronic ignitions is the clean switch off / switch on giving a faster rate of change dV/dt?
