How do I defeat the starter interupt

On my auto to manual conversion? So far everything on this conversion has gone very well but tonight when I tried to turn the motor over with the ignition switch I got nothing. No click, hum or buzz...nada. I have a couple of wires which went to the safety switch on the auto box and I read there is a starter interrupt relay somewhere. What do I need to do with the electrics to make this conversion work?

I have tried joining the two Neutral safety switch wires, no help. The starter is good, I just shorted across the terminals and it turned the engine over. I'm guessing that maybe the hazard switch has to be plugged in?

Hi,

once you have gotten all the wiring installed,

you should find the black wire that comes directly

from the back of the ignition switch. test this for

power when the key is held in the start position.

if this wire is hot then take the connector that

is attached to where the black wire was and

connect it to the black wire which was interrupted

that goes out to the starter. this should make the starter

turn.

the relay that you noted is under the dash just above

the column and that is where you will see the black

wire go in and the bypass wire coming out with

a male plug end that need to be connected.

as a different choice you can connect the two wires

that come from the relay and go under the car to where

the neutral start switch was on the trans.

this can also be used as a cutoff switch by putting

a switch in it and hiding the switch.

good luck

Man, I love the FAQ! Thanks Stone, that's exactly what I needed. Can't wait to get home and try it.

c.d.'s posts are always most informative. Yep, it looks like I can avoid all of that rigamarole by bypassing number 2 in the diagram. Thanks all.
