My leather gear shift knob is loose. It started to turn so i removed it to find that it had been glued on somehow. I thought the leather knobs screwed on. However, my shifting rod does not have threads on it, nor does my shift knob. It's just all leather and slides on top of the rod.

Any ideas on how best to glue it back on, and/or should i purchase a new shifting rod and a new leather knob to screw on?
