  1. Hey all, My cousin is a Marine, and he is out at Camp Pendleton right now for training. He is looking for a good car to drive around-something cheap and reliable. His budget is 7K, and he had an e36 before he moved to CA for training, and I think wants to stay with BMW. Any suggestions from you guys on where to look for an e30 or e36 around ther? Can you find a decent e30 or e36 for that price in CA? He is not much of a "car guy" and doesn't have any experience workin on cars besides what he saw me do to the '02 when he was back home. Anyone in the area have a well-sorted e30/e36 he could drive so he knows what a good on should feel like?
  2. +1 on longer studs. My lugs came loose with a 3mm spacer.
  3. So I recently put on a set of ATS Cups that are et28, so I had an engineering friend of mine make some 3mm spacers to put on to get the offset right. I put the wheels on and got an alignment, and shortly after I noticed a significant steering wheel shake. I thought to myself I'll look at it next time I'm home in Greenville (I go to school in Clemson). Not too long after that, I noticed a shaking in my butt. Seeing as my hips don't lie (and after doing some research) I thought my center support bearing on the driveshaft was bad. So I drove around like this to and from work here on back roads with some twisties for TWO WEEKS. After returning home this weekend (going 80 down the highway mind you), I went to take off my wheels so I could get to the rear bolts of the driveshaft. I noticed that the bolts were loose. Very loose. I-could-take-them-off-with-my-fingers loose. I guess that little spacer didn't allow the lug nuts to grab. Thankfully, the wheels are straight so I can run them without a spacer. Lesson learned, and I'm glad to be alive and well.
  4. Oh man, she's a beaut! I've got a set of those BNIB that'll be on this summer. What are your suspension specs? Did you consider a 195-45-15 tire? I'm running IE stage 2 springs with a coil cut up front and my spring pads removed, and Bilstein Sports.
  5. That's why I love these cars. I constantly have people tell me stories about the one they used to have and how they wish they never sold. I hope I never have to say that about mine.
  6. That car is actually where i got the idea for the Cups. Yeah I put in a 3mm spacer all around just to be safe. No problems yet!
  7. Thanks everybody! I have only seen them on one other '02 in the stance thread, and it was an old picture from the 80s of a forum member's dad's car, so they're definitely unique on an '02, which is what I was going for. i really like the deep dish look, too.
  8. I bought these wheels over the summer and finally got around to getting new tires and putting the wheels on. Here are some crappy cell phone pictures of them. I'll take some good ones at some point soon. They are 15X7 et28 on 195/50 BF Goodrich G Force Sport Comp 2 tires. No complaints or rubbing so far. 9. Interested in the camber plates. You can email me through the FAQ. Thanks.
  10. Hey guys, I recently did a drawing of a photo that the guys at CAtuned took out at the Berekley meet. I had some prints made up of it, and thought I would put them up here to see if anyone wanted to buy them. I'm selling them for $23. I have 8 prints left. They are 8"X11" printed on photo quality stock. Email me if you're interested. IMG_2438 by mtmorto, on Flickr
  11. I don't have any issues with mine, even with my car lowered 2". IMG_1789 by mtmorto, on Flickr IMG_1818 by mtmorto, on Flickr IMG_1823 copy by mtmorto, on Flickr
  12. Figured out the headlights. I must have just barely bumped the plug in the back of them at some point. I wiggled the plug around this morning and they work just fine now. Thanks again for all the help!
  13. Eurotrash: It always is nice to figure most of it out. You guys should have seen the grin on my face when it started. My coworker started laughing and said she'd never seen anyone so happy to start a car. I couldn't have done it without all of you folks' help. Thanks as always to everyone!
  14. Hans: the engine flooding makes much more sense. I think I figured out that there is a short in the wire that goes from the seatbelt warning light to fuse 11, which also controls the fuel pump. The short caused this fuse to blow. I disconnected the wire to fasten seatbelts warning, and it is running fine now, sans headlights. My driving lights work fine though, so I should be okay for the time being. I'll sort out the short when I get a chance to dig into the wiring more.
  15. MORE UPDATES: I tried out the wires on fuse 11 and just unhooked the green/white from the "fasten seatbelts" warning on the dash and no more blown fuse! Got it home and then realized all my lights except my headlights work. Any tips on that one?
  16. UPDATES: I took the battery over to Advance to have them test it and it is fine. All ground connections are solid, all starter connections are good, and the three-wire on the back of the alternator is firmly in place. I also forgot to mention that the fuse on the number 11 circuit was blown, and when I replaced it this morning and tried to start it again, it immediately got blown again. I know the fuel pump goes to this circuit, and the symptoms I was having seem to be starvation of fuel. I'm going to go back later and put a new fuse in after unhooking the fuel pump and turn the key and see if the fuse still blows.
  17. Hans: The voltage meter was reading about 13.5, which is right about what it always reads. Excuse my simple question, but what do you mean when you say the battery was flooding?
  18. I have a '72 tii. This is the first time I've had any issues with it besides the starter dying, which was replaced a couple of weeks ago with the e30 M3 starter. On to my problems: it was around 30 degrees this morning, which I think is the coldest it has been started in. It started up perfectly fine. About 5 minutes down the road, The tach, temp, and fuel gauges died. The speedo still worked fine. A couple minutes later, it started running really rough and wouldn't accelerate. I was trying to limp it to work just a couple of miles away, but it died at a stop sign. I called my friend and had her jump me off. It turned over, but wouldn't start. When we took the cables off, I tried again for the heck of it, and it didn't even turn over. My voltage gauge was showing normal voltage, so I don't think it's the battery, which is why I think it's something with the fuel system. I checked my throttle linkages when I replaced the starter, and the were all good. Any ideas on this?
  19. I think this is the same guy that was featured on Stanceworks for his impressive BMW collection.
  20. I just finished replacing my old, worn out starter with the S14 starter on my tii. What a difference it made! Starts up perfect! I know its been said before that the S14 starter is awesome, but I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make. Super light, much more torque, and extremely painless install.
  21. So I'm having a few starter issues. I went to start it up tonight, and the starter was rotating slower than normal like the battery was almost dead, so I turned the car off, but the starter kept turning over. The engine was turning over, not just the starter. The starter slowly lost torque and then eventually died after about 2 minutes. I drove it last night, so it's not like it has been sitting for a while. This has happened once before, but the starter just hung up and I was able to stall the car to cut it off. This time it wasn't putting out enough torque to stall the car. Is it time to step up to the S14 starter? TIA.
  22. I should hope they do occasionally get up to speed! I know I would!
  23. As some of you know, BMW held its annual Eurofest last weekend. The featured make was Mercedes. There were a lot of cars there of all makes. I didn't photograph as many as I wish I had, but here are a few that I did get.
