Add my 71 1602 to the list of Ed's old cars. He acquired it from owner 1 in 1987 and sold it in 1999 to owner 3. I bought it in 2009, I'm owner 4. My car was shown and mentioned in the May 99 Roundel article, below. If anyone has old pictures from the time of Ed's ownership through 1999, I'd love to see them! Car has traveled 14K since this article was written.

Love the story on page 54 center column, it's my kind of humor.

"BMW refused to sell me parts because it was a European-specification car. A year or two later I was at BMW NA headquarters for a meeting. Afterwards the VP of parts happened to look out the window. He said, 'I wonder what all those people are looking at down there?' I said, 'probably my car' He was shocked to see the car he wouldn't sell me parts for perfectly restored - and asked where I got the parts. I told him there was a new invention called an airplane: you can fly to Germany, buy parts, and then fly back. After that he told me I could order whatever I wanted for the car from BMW.'

I've known Ed for about 20+ years as member of the BMWCCA. He has some great stories to tell about his racing days and the cars he has owned. Always a great time when he starts talking about his love of BMWs.

I remember the good old days when Ed and Garth Ullom campaigned various cars in SCCA showroom stock competition. Garth drove an Inka squarie in SSB (or maybe it was a tii in SSA). Later, Ed joined him, racing a 320i (as I recall). This was at Summit Point in the mid 70s. Garth was a very good racer, and fairly serious; Ed was more in it for the fun of it.
