front struts

I want to take the front spring/shock/housing assy apart, so that I can get the

housing/spindle assy powder coated. I got a spring compressor, but the spring seems to have no tension on it. the fine thread nut is loose. can I just remove that large nut, and pull the shock / spring off?

anything to worry about?

lower the car? I noticed when fitting a set of H&Rs that I didn't have to compress the front springs to install 'em.

But I'd still hang the compressor on 'em just to make sure. Springs that are compressed even a little store a great deal of potential energy, and you don't want it applied to your body!

cheers
