Hand Brake Cables on 320i brake upgrade

Hey all,

Just finished my rear 320i drums and have found that the ebrake cable is long enough to hook onto the lever arm of the brake pad but its so short that it extends the brakes and I'm unable to get the brake drum installed.

Do I need to use 320i brake cables?

The two-decade old fix is to cut the end of the steel tune in which the cable goes.

Seconded.

Turbo E-brake cables are the way to go. Since the 250mm E21 drums were first designed for the 2002 Turbo, the Turbo's E-brake cables will work. I have them; they work.

P/N is 34 41 1 110 971.

or the other fix (which is also documented in a thread on this same topic) is to grind a little off the pad separator plate.

Or you can simply grind a little bit off the ends of the steel guide tubes on the underbody.

This is what I did. Pretty easy, works perfectly.
