Started out cutting lawns as a kid. Borrowed money from my dad to buy the lawnmower and then paid him back so it was mine. Detailed cars in college and worked for a furrier making fur coats. Graduated with a degree in Fine art and then waitered and worked in bars. Went to Key West after college for a while painted and sold watercolors and lived the good life. Moved back to NJ and BS'd my way into a job in the infancy of computer graphics in 1981 and was trained as 1 of the first 100 computer graphic artists in the country. I shut up, kept my eyes and ears open and learned how to run the computer graphics business and 3 years later, quit and opened my own shop. Fast forward 27 years and I'm looking at retiring and having fun. Along the way I opened a saltwater fly fishing shop, promoted outdoor fishing expos and even designed and built a custom boat and ended up selling the project at a profit. Best advice I can give - keep your eyes open and look for opportunity. Don't be afraid to jump in feet first and work your ass off. If it doesn't work out, you still will have learned something very valuable and are even better prepared when the next opportunity comes along.
