  1. I think he meant the status of the car. Rusty, runs well? Hows the motor? Suspension? Breaks? Money goes to the last two first, then the motor. I.E. sway-bars area alotta bang for their buck. Turning gets real fun
  2. I dont want to be an ass but (hehehhehhe) 74 means no smog for this 17 year old! Whoot. Sorry, I couldnt resist. Happy Motoring!
  3. 17 years old. My first car is over double my age. (I would'nt have it any other way)
  4. To be honest, I cant give a numerical value. I've had the car since the 1st of this year, and I have not driven any differently than when I got her recently, I have noticed my fuel meter dropped a lot faster than It used to. I filled up today, and I'm going to try to get an approximate MPG from my trip odometer. I had a thought, since I never let it drop below 1/4 of a tank (from the gauge) I could still have fuel in the tank that isnt being shown by the sender. Basically, could I be getting a false reading from the dash?
  5. Wow, great turnout! I had no idea there where this many in Silver Spring, just on the forum. I also know of Dudley Williams "Dudonly" in Chevy Chase. I had no idea there was an event in Herndon (should probably look more closely at the "events" forum). I'll definitely be attending that event, but is there any interest in having a parking-lot meeting near the DC border in Bethesda, MD. Im open to suggestions for location.
  6. I can answer two questions right now. No, nobody is siphoning gas, I keep her garaged. (I wish it was that simple). I have a fuel pressure regulator. I don't think I have a leak around any of the hose connections. Could be a leak from the lines themselves though. Hood area isn't abnormally wet so far as I can tell. I also don't think its on the cabin line, the smell comes and goes randomly. The smell probably tied to something I'm doing, but I don't know what. (I've accelerated hard, decelerated hard, without the smell)
  7. The screws that hold the mirror to the tab always backed out a bit for me. I put a bit of blue loctite on it, and tightened that bad boy up. Allen key replacement seems like a good idea.

  9. Hello everyone, Im trying to see who is located in the DC area, or in any of the surrounding states. Please post where your located more or less (city, state) Im thinking of arranging a "get together" of sorts for local 02-ers, and want to know who is interested, and where we all are. Edit: There seems to be a event the 11th (see link further down). I however would like to find out the interest for another parking lot get together near the DC border. Im in Bethesda, but Silver Spring is pretty popular as well. Suggestions for locations? I know my high-school Bethesda-Chevy Chase High at East-West Highway & Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda would be capable of holding quite a few of us on a weekend. Bethesda, MD
  10. I was looking for help with the diagnosis. Recently I've noticed an increase in fuel usage from my '74 2002. I haven't changed my driving style too much, and I pulled my plugs earlier, and they looked fairly normal, with a white/tan tip. I have an electric fuel pump installed instead of the good ol manual, and I have a Weber 32/36 kit installed. What are common culprits of excessive fuel consumption. I don't think I'm running rich, nor that its leaking on to the road. I have however had a bit of a gas smell every so often in the cabin. The fuel line from the electric pump runs down the passenger side to the firewall, and the electric pump is located underneath the rear seat. I tightened up all the pipe clamps I could find. Let me know what information is needed, and Ill post anything including pic's. P.S. I know fuel line through cabin = bad idea, but the P.O. did the work, and I've now got to find a better way of doing it. Ideas on this would be appreciated. Thanks Everyone Dan
  11. Im wondering if they still sell the Rear upper spring mounts. Im trying to raise my rear by a half inch. Would this be a 3 dot? I have 1 dots in there right now. If im replacing the uppers, do the lowers need to be replaced as well?
  12. Hey, I was wondering a couple things about your setup. What did you use for lights (the stealth ones) and where did you get them? Also what sort of alternator are you running? I had something similar in mind for mine for a while. Thanks
  13. POR-15 sells a kit for calipers, which seems to be pretty good.
  14. Haha, its almost like a disease, looks like your signature needs updating!

  16. Is anyone going to Carlisle this year? Im going to be heading up with some Opel GT guys I know from the Washington DC area, but Im wondering if we can get some 02's in the convoy. (otherwise, I'd be feeling so boxy) So lets see if we can get some 02's from MD/VA/DC/DE.
  17. Does anyone know the part # for the condenser (distributor) for a 1974 2002. I went to my local auto zone, and the condenser they gave me didn't fit into the dizzy. Thanks.
  18. Hey, I'm fairly certain this is a dumb question, but what does the upper right idiot light in the dash stand for. I know the other three are oil pressure, blinkers, and highbeams, and I believe the last one is low voltage??
  19. Hey anyone have any ideas for material to use as the moisture barrier for the doors? Im looking for cheap, and available at the local Home depot / Ace Hardware. Any ideas?
  20. Im wondering if anyone can recommend a website (or store) where I can get very small sizes of engine enamels (1 oz). I am thinking of putting the M colors on my valve cover. I want to paint the raised lines on the valve cover, and dont need much. Any input is much appreciated.
  21. I had the same problem in my 02, but I cut open some spare fuel line lengthwise, then I put it over the rattling rod, and duct taped the ends. It weighs down the rod, and reduces the rattle. Works for everything but the largest potholes. (Oh DC... who taught you all how to pave?)
  22. No, I've seen his car around as well. Im the 17 year old cruising around in a blue '74
  23. Marc, my neighbor and I both own 2002's. Mine is fairly clean '74, and in use as my daily driver. My friend (Dudonly on this site) owns a work-in-progress '71. I would have to talk to him, but we both live in the Chevy Chase / Bethesda suburb of Washington DC. I'll get back to you, but I believe an opportunity to see two 02's might be more fun that only one. Let me know if your interested.
