Sorry to hear about your troubles with the dealer. I live closer to Bav Auto than the nearest dealer so they are my source for parts and have always been able to get anything I need for my tii. It is fun to walk through their parts aisles to see how much they carry in stock.

great post - I can relate to rust - living on the east coast and in NH where salt in the winter is king. I loved the fact that you were on baby duty until 1am. I think I had the same shift. I hated the hours from 1 until 5am - yuk. Mom did those - phew.
keep wrenching and stealing hours -

wow - I am approaching 62 so the list is long but I will simplify it by eliminating all US cars/trucks and volvo's - the swedish buick
well one US car still must be on the list - my first
47 - Willys Jeep - CJ2A - put 60k miles on her -
68 BMW 2002 - purchased used from a priest - that is a long story
62 Porsche 356B Cabriolet - unreal fun but rusted away after a few years
Peugot - don't recall the year or model - it was a $100 winter car - very comfortable on the highway but a real POS
69 Porsche - 912 - another rust bucket but lots of fun
81 BMW 528i - wonderful car
83 Porsche 911s Cabriolet - OMG that was fast and a joy to drive
85 BMW 535i - wow love that big 6!
86 BMW 535i - wow again - love the E28's
46 Willys CJ2a Jeep - fully restored by me and used hard - still have it
74 BMW 2002tii - running great and used almost daily until snow - thankfully, it will never be done
Current daily sled is a 2011 VW Toureag TDI - very nice ride and over 30mpg
I have been very lucky. I have owned and enjoyed some wonderful cars - still hoping for a 3.0csi but Santa says that they are too much money -

Just curious if you purchased the Vredestein's or not. If so how is the ride? Are they noisy?
thanks for any info

One of the suppliers carries a specific bracket for the 240 conversion. I have a 240 in my 74 and it performs nicely. I did not do the install but it appears that width is not an issue. The bracket in mine is homemade and looks similar to the 245 bracket. I have removed this tranny to do a rebuild and it was just time consuming and not all that difficult

thanks for all of your efforts - they are greatly appreciated

I have a 290 in my 74 tii from Metric Mechanic - it was a bit of a challenge to get the mixture right but the stock kf pump seems up to it. At times I wish I had another tii to compare it to but she idles at about 900 and pulls hard through all gears - in my case 5 gears

I don't recall the exact number but I do know I bought the 100 mile flat bed towing from Hagerty - it covers my 46 willys jeep as well but I don't take that one more than 25 miles from home - LOL

I agree with Ray - check for a vacuum leak - loose hose, missing plug, etc
good luck

I have found that if I need to search a topic on the FAQ, using google sends my laptop into chaos

is there a cost yet? I would be interested

there were some very cool cars in that auction. Glad I wasn't there because there were a few on the lower end that I would have raised my arm on.
I was amazed at what some of the non auto items sold for

I like to think there is an investment and a resulting cost per mile/smile. If you pour money in and don't drive your car then the cost per smile goes up. We each have our own opinion when asked about justifying the investment.

Thanks to Art, the spring is on its way!

email sent =- thanks
also found them on EBAY but in Germany

thanks for another tip. tough to tell for sure but that one does not look like mine. The numbers are not the same either. German EBAY is a good option for searching that I had not considered

thanks - we have a fastenal account at work - a non specific spring may be my only option.

Hi
I would like to replavce the tension spring located inside the tuna can on my 74 tii. Part number is 13541256062. None seem to be available from the usual vendors - any help is appreciated. I prefer a new one
thanks

thinking of doing the same - where did you place the sensor - header down pipe or in the tailpipe just after it?
anyone try the no weld connector?
Jeff
-
thanks for the part numbers. After doing some research about scratches in anodized aluminum, you are correct - buy a new part but if I recall, that part is not easily removed/replaced. I will try the search function and see what pops up.

great - thanks

Scott - that's the one - one of these days I will learn how to post a picture

welcome, sounds like a terrific project. I have a friend/mechanic that is old school with 2002's and is near Fairlee Vermont. If you are close to him, PM me and I will get you his phone number.
