  1. great post - I can relate to rust - living on the east coast and in NH where salt in the winter is king.  I loved the fact that you were on baby duty until 1am.  I think I had the same shift.  I hated the hours from 1 until 5am - yuk.  Mom did those - phew.

keep wrenching and stealing hours -

  2. wow - I am approaching 62 so the list is long but I will simplify it by eliminating all US cars/trucks and volvo's - the swedish buick

well one US car still must be on the list - my first

    47 - Willys Jeep - CJ2A - put 60k miles on her -

68 BMW 2002 - purchased used from a priest - that is a long story

62 Porsche 356B Cabriolet - unreal fun but rusted away after a few years

Peugot - don't recall the year or model - it was a $100 winter car - very comfortable on the highway but a real POS

69 Porsche - 912 - another rust bucket but lots of fun

    81 BMW 528i - wonderful car

83 Porsche 911s Cabriolet - OMG that was fast and a joy to drive

    85 BMW 535i - wow love that big 6!

    86 BMW 535i - wow again - love the E28's

46 Willys CJ2a Jeep - fully restored by me and used hard - still have it

74 BMW 2002tii - running great and used almost daily until snow - thankfully, it will never be done

Current daily sled is a 2011 VW Toureag TDI - very nice ride and over 30mpg

I have been very lucky.  I have owned and enjoyed some wonderful cars - still hoping for a 3.0csi but Santa says that they are too much money -

    74 BMW 2002tii -

  3. One of the suppliers carries a specific bracket for the 240 conversion. I have a 240 in my 74 and it performs nicely. I did not do the install but it appears that width is not an issue. The bracket in mine is homemade and looks similar to the 245 bracket. I have removed this tranny to do a rebuild and it was just time consuming and not all that difficult

  4. thanks for the part numbers. After doing some research about scratches in anodized aluminum, you are correct - buy a new part but if I recall, that part is not easily removed/replaced. I will try the search function and see what pops up.
