  1. mine also rubbed and without taking them apart to sort out why, I swung by a local glass company that has been around for many years. The felt as though the wiper "pivot bushings" were worn and showed me that by pulling upward on the arm there was slop. He adjusted the arm on the post to a higher location and they have been fine since. While not a correct solution, it worked. Now that I have read this thread, I will investigate further the washers etc

  2. part number 51211836292 is for the top trim on the exterior of the doors. Based off of my FAQ searches, is it correct to say that the rubber sweep is not included with the part and is purchased separately?

how is the trim piece removed? Gently prying upwards?

    Many thanks

  3. perfect - my first 2002 was purchased in 1973, it was a 1969. Back then I never would have left a roach, clip maybe - but never a roach. I didn't have to look under the dash after I purchased the car, the prior owner was a priest. The ashtray looked like new until the ride home....

  4. I just went through this with a new/old tumbler and only one key. I bought two bmw 2002 key blanks on ebay and took them to a local locksmith. he was unable to cut the key to match. Fortunatly he had blanks for the key that came with the tumbler - it was a VW key. He was able to cut those and they worked fine.

I then spun into action and started the process of replacing the ignition tumbler. after digging in deep I discovered that someone before me had buggered up the roll pin that secures the tumbler. Oh what fun - I will resume the project in the fall. At least I have plenty of keys now.

Scott - ABC lock in Dover NH - old time guy - just tell him you are voting for Romney and he will take care of you - lol

  5. where I work we have about 80 trucks running on propane. They are all GMC 2500HD service trucks. we do all of the conversions in our own shop. I asked about my tii and they said "carb, no problem - injected could be tough". There are plenty of fueling stations, as stated above anywhere they fill a gas grill tank is a filling station.

The US has a lot of propane right now and there is a push to do fleet conversions. Much easier with propane than natural gas because it is already in a liquid form. Of course the govt is pushing natural gas because we are awash in it - they don't understand or care about how difficult and costly refueling stations are.

  6. I have owned a 356 cabriolet, a 912 and an 83 911 cabriolet - all great cars and all purchased when they were affordable. as as example, I paid 1500 for the 356 of course that was back in 1973. They are very different from my current 02tii. I have also owned a 68 2002, and three e28's - I dont think I can even begin to choose which is a better ride, they are too different to compare. I have loved all the cars I have owned - even the Peugot which always got me home - barely - heck it was only a $100 back in 75 - LOL.

  7. sorry to hijack this thread

Bill - the big rear bumper on my 74 come in handy as it allows me to mount part of the exhaust hook-up end on it, then I run the wires in then out of the trunk to the drivers window. The unit has small hooks that allow me to hang it facing inwards so I can monitor what is going on. A little bit of Rube Golberg but it does the trick - LOL

of course its accuracy is probably suspect ;)

  8. Nice job Scott - sorry I wasn't around to help.

Bill - above you mentioned that the Heathkit could only be used when adjusting the idle. I have used mine out on the road while driving in different situations and at different rpm's. I know the accuracy of the Heathkit testers are probably suspect but now I am curious if I should not be adjusting my settings when using it in this manner. Fortunately - the car runs fine and the plugs after 1000 miles look correct.

  9. Scott emailed me about this thread. I was the one that adjusted the idle screw outside of the tuna can. I always use an exhaust analyzer whenever I am adjusting anythingto do with air/fuel mixtures on my tii. I use an old heathkit purchased on ebay.

Scott, I am at the cape right now and heading back later today - home by 3. You are more than welcome to borrow it. If you have the tii manual it will tell you which way to turn the screw to enrich but it is pretty easy to tell by ear - more air=higher engine speed. It is a delicate balance between many parts. Popping on decel, assuming everything else is fine might mean an adjustment to the throttle cam as mentioned above. Feel free to email me when you are at the car and perhaps I can help via the phone.
