I have also kept an eye on the Old Air Products and it does indeed seem like a perfect solution. It will be a winter project for me - good luck with your project this summer, anxious to see photos

are your back-up lights on?

hmm - if I recall, I was able to replace mine without removing the pin. seems to work OK and it wasn't too hard to do. Of course I lost it on the floor of my barn on my first attempt - lucky I had a big magnet

just wondering if this install ever happened - it appears the unit will fit

Great story - thanks for sharing!

I had the same problem on plug number one - I used my shop vac with a modified end and it sucked the plastic piece right out

if it was mine, I would take the car and cleaner to a good recon shop for advice. They should be able to square you away quickly with a solution.

Try to look at and drive as many as possible before you settle on one. They are all unique and many have been modified over the years to suit their owner. Unfortunately you just missed the spring gathering of the nor'east 2002 club where 17 cars were in attendance. If you can make it up to Portsmouth NH or further north, feel free to email me, you are more than welcome to drive mine.

Has anyone done a before and after Db measurement after soundproofing their 02?
Jeff

It was a great day and lots of fun. Pushing down the highway at 75mph for an hour means it will be time for some soundproofing next winter - LOL.
looking forward to the next gathering

Does the center carrier bearing support the weight of the driveshaft? Mine was replaced apprx 3k miles ago and I noticed that the driveshaft rests on the lower side of center. While in this position, I am unable to get the proper alignment of the driveshaft. If I place a 3/8 piece of rubber fuel line under the bearing, everything is good.
thanks for any advice

yes, still looking - PM or email me and we can sort out the particulars

Hi
I am looking for a transmission exhaust bracket that mounts on the rear of the tranny. In my case it would mount on a Getrag 240 - 5 speed but I think one from a 4 speed would work. I believe there are two pieces to the bracket plus the clamp. Any help would be appreciated
thanks

try the bolts where the big washers are - looks to me like you could easily slide the unit to the left.

I restored a 46 Willys Jeep about ten years ago. Since then I have towed it with 4 wheels down via a tow bar, a tow dolly with the driveshaft disconnected and with 4 wheels up on a trailer. I am the happiest when all 4 wheels are off the ground. I would feel the same way about my 2002. When towing my jeep with a dolly, I had to maintain lower speeds than usual because it would wag - plus I would stop to check wheel bearings and to make sure the diff wasn't too hot.
Seems to me I have seen a picture here of an open U-Haul trailer with an 2002 stuffed in it - seems like a simple, reasonable solution.
good luck - some can hook on a rope and tow a car 100 miles without a problem. Others aren't so lucky.

hmm - sounds like my length problem's solution may lie in my mounts - you can't make this stuff up

OK - back to the topic - LOL
I have a 3 bolt flange and yes it appears it was not right from the start. So what I am hearing is that I can't take 3/16 off each end??
thanks

While I have not sorted out the exact number, it appears my driveshaft is approx. 3/8 of an inch too long. The diff is moved as far to the rear as it will go and the driveshaft knuckles downward at the center carrier bearing. I am unable to level it because of this. The condition existed before my ownership and does not create any unusual vibration but it appears to be hard on guibos. Is it possible to remove enough material off each end of the driveshaft to solve my dilemma?
74tii - 5 speed
thanks - Jeff

Hi Pat
You are the man! The unit looks great - looking forward to trying it out but no rush - we are still in hibernation mode. Take care - I trust all is well

I am a pretty big guy - I traded my recaros for stock seats. sitting in one for a few minutes may not be enough to tell if you like them. I loved the way they hugged me on an agressive tight turn but did not like them on a long ride. Every butt is different -

I have printed many of your posts for my reference book - many thanks for taking the effort to help us poor unknowing but all willing
where are you in CT - still an active shop?

I bought the car with it already installed. I just pulled it for a rebuild, I have no idea what it has on it for miles. If I recall, it has the same gear ratios as the 245, is shorter and a little lighter. My driveshaft was shortened to allow the fit but the rest seems to be stock. Some say it is a weaker transmission compared to the 245 - if you give it a good google or FAQ search you will turn up more info
Give Metric Mechanic a call and pick their brain, they should be able to help you out if you need more info beyond searches

it is a getrag 240, used for that year only. I have one in my tii. Some say it is not as good as the 245. All of the 5 speed swap kits I know of are for the 245, they are more plentiful.

Anyone Trailer an 02 on a single axle trailer?
in BMW 2002 and other '02

what is the rating of the trailer? in case of a flat, a trailer with four wheels is always better than two. having said that, I am sure many have trailered light vehicles on a single axle trailer. Brakes on the trailer may be required in your state as well.
I have a 46 Willys jeep and I have tried numerous trailering options. Everything from a uhaul that would hold a big old caddy to a car dolly. I finally settled on a tandem axle trailer - life is good. It doesn't sway and tracks nicely behind my SUV.
