Yes yes it is a corgi....ive always bloody wanted one...

So out of curiosity i lifted the chain cover and saw this....what the hell is this and how did it happen?!

If it's not broke, don't fix it. But if by some odd chance you broke it, deny it.

Hmmm, I don't see anything wrong there. I see chain and the upper end of chain tensioner. It's rubberized metal and to me it looks ok in your picture. Is it worn. If you move the chain can you see bad grooves on the rubber surface? Then there is the "bowl" of oil. In the oil you should find the end of tensioner piston. Is it positioned correctly to the guide? Then open the plug on side and check the spring and the piston. Is the chain guide on the other side of chain ok? They tend to break at the upper end sometimes.
