i'm sure this will be the first of many questions I have for you 02 gurus. I am mechanically inclined but not very experienced..yet ( this car is meant to change that )

A couple of days ago my shifting started to feel very sloppy and not sound quite right, yesterday I lost the ability to go into third gear, and today I lost first. Upon taking off the rubber boot and removing the rotten foam this is what I found.

Just busted clean!

I do not know what part that is or how to replace it. Any help would be great as I need to fix it as soon as possible, it's my DD. ( my repair manual is on it's way but wont be here for a number of days )

But - while you are in there.....

You at least want to replace the blocks that hold the shifter platform to the transmission.

Also, this is the time to replace the nylon cup that hold the ball of the shifter tight. There is a post recently to explain.

Find some closed cell foam to replace the foam that was there

While you are under there. look at your guibo and other wear parts.

WAIT !!!!

I see a broken chunk of the metal shifter

platform in the photo !

you need to get under the supported car and look

closely at all the broken/worn/loose parts

and place an order for all the bits at one time

you need shifter platform #8 for starters
