Vin help

This is a bit perplexing to me. I bought my car about a month ago and I decided to do some research on the vin today. By using the realoem.com lookup it did not give me a vin. I then went to the 2002registry and it said that my vin was invalid.... 2571129 can somebody give me an idea of what might be going on here?

From our own FAQ:

Pre 71 1971, Jan-71 to Mar-71, vins 2-570-001 to 2-572-069 = 2069 vehicles, your vin falls in this range and appears to be a `71.

Those sites do not always return all the vins. I have two vins that do not come up. The vins are correct and are listed in the vin reference on this site and have been check by BMW archives.

You can email BMW Mobile Tradition Archives and they can provide can confirm the VIN and also provide the manufacture date and original color.

In 1980 all manufacturers went to a standardized 17 character VIN. The "calculators" are based on these numbers. They are not reliable for VINs 1979 and before.
