Does removing the screw top from an NGK BPR6ES effectively remove the "R" and make it a BP6ES? And is that the right plug to be running? Brian '72 2002

No. If this were the case, the plugs would carry the same designation except With screw top or without screw top. Do a little researching and you will find the resistance is built in to the plug. You could remove the resistance if you could find a way to disassemble the porcelain and the center conduit and resolder things. It is probably much easier to buy the appropriate plug.

More seriously, you could obtain the same minimal resistance in the secondary ignition by making or using non-resistor plug connectors. The difference however is pretty negligible.

M10 engine have resistors built in, so you really don't need either resistor plugs or plug wire. The resistors are to reduce radio interference--especiallly on AM. How often do you use your AM radio?

That being said, with a good ignition system using resistor plugs won't make any negative difference (or any positive difference either), so...if ya got 'em, use 'em.
