THE key to correct oil speck for the steering gear is HIGH SHEAR

Please use only " HYPOID" SAE 90 gear lubricant -

and not synthetics - same oil for the rear diff.

NOT in the trans ! No HYPOID, or GL-5 grade gear oils in the gear box

Use ATF(winter), or GL-4 75/80(other 3-seasons) in the gearbox

Why not a good synthetic? How soon should I be expecting trouble because I have been using a good synthetic in all my boxes and engine since 1978? Any day now or in another 30 years?

The only thing I don't have is all the black gunk in the engine from dino (I really don't miss it).

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

The BMW '02 Restoration Guide (Mike Maccartney)

recommends using wheel bearing grease (or some

equivalent) instead of oil--less chance of leakage ??? =

THAT would be C-V joint grease which has high shear

and impact and fluid flowing properties -

but may be stiffer to turn when cold/frozzen.
