Output shaft seal replacement

I used a crowbar and wedged it behind an ear of the flange, and then tapped (not pounded) the crowbar with my deadblow hammer. I moved the crowbar from one side to another and rotated the flange as well, in the hope that I didn't ding anything up inside the transmission. It came off after a few minutes.

Then to put it back on, I placed the 30mm socket in the flange and tapped it with the deadblow as well.

Good luck

Hey, this one's easy.

First, go gently and don't bend anything.

Second, try gently prying- I've always had them come loose with

gentle pressure, too.

Third, a dead- blow hammer, used carefully, might help break it loose.

4th, and funnest- get yourself a strap of metal,

drill 2 holes in it to line up with 2 opposing holes in the flange.

Then get 2 bolts to bolt the strap to the flange. You're going to

pull the flange back using the stub of the shaft that sticks out of the

transmission. Tighten things down carefully. If the strap bends enough, the

ends of the bolts will hit the trans housing. If you're careful, you can protect

the transmission, and keep tightening. It'll pull right off.

Honest.

Mine came off after a few taps with a rubber mallet. See my crude tool for holding the flange still while turning the 30mm nut.

Also make sure the new seal is recessed 2 mm into the output shaft cover or else the coupling will rub against it (like mine was).

puller. I'm certain you'll find other uses for it, it is one of those tools you just need to accumulate (along with a three jaw puller).

Ignore the other advice about tapping it off. Get the puller, do it right the first time. FWIW, Harbor Freight sells one that would be awful if you made your living working on cars, but is a great value for the hobbyist

Cheers!!
