Rally car interest in SoCal?

For the last few years, I have been itching to build a Street legal off road rally 02 car to blaze through some of SoCal's fine mountain Fire trails..... I really want to do this! I really really want at least one other crazy bastard out there to go blazing with!

I do a lot of the now famous SoCal twisty mountain drives, and have for years. My fear is all of the others that are on the road at times. This is why I really want to take it off of the streets. A friend once showed me a trail that went on for 76 miles uninterupted, all off road, all fast, sliding, dirty fun. It is legal to drive on these roads, and you can pick up a book with all of the great "roads" listed. They are all in our backyards.

Any takers?

I was going to rally out my 2002, but instead I lowered and stiffened the hell out of the suspension. I was even going to paint it like the rally 02 in the photo. I grew up on a small hillside in Los Angeles, near South Pasadena. When I got my first hand-me-down POS car I would tear up and down the hillside and the short fire road. Man, that was fun! The fire road was only about half a mile long and would actually take me to within a block of my high school. The city later gated it up because they had a training facility there and also because a few dead bodies turned up to. But I do miss that! Driving up and down Angeles Crest Highway is fun too but there are to many cars and especially cops on that road. Damn, John. You got me thinking I should do some off road excursions with my 02. I'm smiling right now thinking of the all the old shit I used to do! It would be so much more fun in my 2002! Hmmmm.........................

Hey John, I'd love to build a rally car with you. When I was an ambitious kid, I built up a celica all-trac and tore around the fire roads through Angeles and somehow am still alive to talk about it. I even got to attend a rally school in England. An Escort Cosworth remains one of the most fun cars I have ever had the pleasure of thrashing. I haven't had the time to do much in the last ten years but now that the kids are no longer babies, I'm itching to have some motorsport fun and rally is the most fun of all.
