You guys ever get new parts buyers regret too?

Well yea, I sometimes do, but I shop very carefully and try to get the best price on things I really want and pass on stuff that gets to pricey. I have spent around 3 times the purchase price of my car over the 5 years I have owned it. But that includes an entire new engine, compleate suspension upgrade, and lots of other nice stuff. Overall I doubt I could have spent the money elsewhere and got any more satisfaction. My only gripe is I am to conservative to do much real mechanical work on my own car, so I have spent a few thousand on labor as well as all the parts & upgrades. Even so I feel I got the most out of my $. I have replaced my entire engine with a fresh one including a new clutch, Tii mechanical distributor, new pistons, all pumps & bearings, entire new E-21 head & valve train w/SS valves, 284 cam, schrick HD springs, IE rocker clips Etc. for less than $5500 installed. For the $1300 in labor I paid, I know it was done by a highly skilled BMW specialist who has built 100's of engines.

Well worth the piece of mind. And by the time I paid for tools, lifts, supplies, and the stress of doing it myself I am ahead!

Heheheh...I was afraid to start a political commentary, but that's pretty funny.

Anyway, DIVE IN! It's more satisfying than you'd believe to do your own maintenance. It's kind of theraputic and cathartic.

Nothing like paying for your own incompetence.

Sure there is. How about paying for someone else's incompetence. At least you may profit from your lunacy. In the worseR example, the other person possibly makes a profit from being an idiot and you still feel foolish for having hired that person!

I think I have heard experts refer to this phenomena as the sea foam theory of car repair.

I have a love hate relationship with doing my own work.

I love doing stuff myself, and seeing how things work.

I hate it when I struggle to get something together - or make a mess - or ruin a part - or can't figure something out. Cussing, bleeding, insomnia (admit it - some of you can't sleep either if it's not right).

I love driving when everything is back together, and it is ultimately better than before.

Yep - I'm an idiot too...
