Changing valve guides

CAM

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I have to change my valve guides (worn) and valve seats (to hard ones).

Now they come in standard size and in oversize. What do I have to order?

Does the hole gets bigger when you punch out the valve guide or not?

Same question for the valve seats?

Can the valve guides be changed without heating the block?

Thanks,

Suggest you have a machine shop swap the valve guides; they have the proper equipment to remove/replace. Also suggest using the late style guides/stem seals as used in the E30 M10 engine--the stem seals are much longer lived than the original 2002 design.

As for valve seats--make sure you need to replace 'em. Normally they last a long time unless they're rusted/pitted to a point where they can't be cleaned up by grinding/lapping. To properly install 'em you've gotta heat the head (and chill the seats) .

cheers
