Hello guys, The May 1972 BMWCCA announced a new member "Myron Levy, 3016 Fallstaff Manor Ct., Baltimore, Md. is the lucky owner of a 1970 Turbo May 2002". http://db.nccbmwcca.org/1972/1972_0500_Tech.pdf So there was a turbo MAY in the US in 1970!!!Is this the first? Who knows Myron Levy (Baltimore area)? I'm looking for pictures of this exceptional car, especially from under the hood to see how things were mounted. I own half of a Turbo May kit and am looking desperatly for mounting details. Thanks, Michel - Belgium
  2. Hi everybody, The September '71 issue of BMWCCA http://db.nccbmwcca.org/1971/1971_0900.pdf mentions that Hoffman was going to import the MAY turbo kit in the US. Did he finally do this? Does someone have pictures, mounting instructions or articles of this kit? Is there any car with the kit in the US? Thanks, Michel - Belgium
  3. Hi guys, I'm installing E30 valve guides with dito stem seals (I was told they should last forver!). These valve guides are 50 mm instead of 52mm for the original ones. How much must this valve guide come out at the stem seal side (the new seals are smaller)? Was 15mm for the original ones, but I can't find this for the E30 type. Somebody done this before? Reference BMW 11 12 1 263 642 (TRW 81-1162) Thx, Michel - Belgium

  5. Hi Niclas, What is the effect of using a 304 cam on a turbo engine? Corky Bell states that "high-overlap cams create a huge amount of reversion", p163 "Maximum boost". The max Bhp of your engine come at 6000 revs which is relatively low speed, so the cam didn't shift the powerband to high revs such as with atmospheric engines. Do you have dyno's with the stock 264 cam? I would like to know what's the net impact of the cam in the 335 Bhp. Anyway, congrats with this hot project! Greetings, Michel - Belgium

  11. Hi there! I have to change my valve guides (worn) and valve seats (to hard ones). Now they come in standard size and in oversize. What do I have to order? Does the hole gets bigger when you punch out the valve guide or not? Same question for the valve seats? Can the valve guides be changed without heating the block? Thanks, Michel - Belgium
  12. Thanks John, Yes, I see the "3" on the edge of the chain sprocket flange, just next to the TDC notch mark! So it is a 300° BMW, whow! It is a bit odd to identify a cam with only one digit. I wonder why they didn't put the part # 11 31 0 631 009 on it as on the orange sticker on your picture. I understand you'd prefer to go with an E12 head and have the journals line bored rather than using the 121TI I've bougth with the cam. In that case I should use the tii "raised grand piano" pistons 9.5:1. I thought that the 121TI (with a smaller combusion chamber) could give more compression with tii "121" pistons giving 10:1. What did you do for your car and what is the result? Cheers, Michel
  13. Hi guys, I've just bought a 300° BMW Motorsport cam on E-bay. How can I be sure of this? On the cam I see: 5(raised) R118 0083.2 M(double M) 439 The first bearing is 45mm and the middle is 44mm. This cam fits in a 121TI head R12102500809 with the same size for the bearings. Is this a matched pair? What inlet valves should I put in this head : 44mm or 46mm? Do I have to change the valve seats for unleaded gas? Thanks, Michel - Belgium

  15. Hi guys, I can borrow an old Micronta 22-1641A (ex RADIO SHACK/TANDY) dwell angle/tach to adjust the dwell angle, but the manual is missing. There are three positions selectable : dwell / tach / points. Where do I connect the red and the black wire for the three cases? On the analog meter, there is an indication for 8 cyls and 6 cyls, but not for 4 cyls : which scale should I use?? Is it worth doing this procedure or is it OK to simply set the points at 0.4mm?   16. Hi Jeremy, I took a small mirror and saw that the pin was well alligned in front of the hole at the top. So I gave some extra ticks with a hammer to overcome the friction of the pin going into the rod's top hole, and it sits nicely now. Thanks for your help! Michel
  17. It stays about 1mm out below the rod. When I put it in 1st gear, the shift shaft comes to the rear and I can feel the hole with my finger on top of the rod. Should I give it a good slam, or better turn & pull the rod in order to gently knock it in? Thanks, Michel - Belgium
  18. Hi, I'm rebuilding my '74 shifter (late model). There is some play on the two bushings of parts 3 and 10 (see attached picture of the shifter). These plastic bushings don't have a specific part nbr. so I guess I can't find a replacement for it. How can I solve this? Adding a yellow shim ( .9mm) behind the circlips really doesn't help much!   23. Hi guys, I have to replace the guibo and the center bearing of my '75 2002 and found low prices on www.autohausaz.com with the MTC/RONAK brand. The guibo is $ 18.90 an the center bearing is $13.70. I don't think there are lower prices for these. Who has experience with MTC? Is this good bang for the buck? Thanks, Michel
  24. Hi guys, I've changed all brake hoses on my '75 european 2002. But, for the rear hoses I couldn't get on the bolt at the rear axle side. So, I dicided to lower the rear axle 15CM and I could reach the bolt. I did this on both sides, but the result now is a lot of noise/vibration coming from the drive shaft when accelerating, especially in 3th and 4th gear. Before this operation, I didn't have these vibrations. The repair CD talks about "..injecting Loctite Green in the sliding section of the drive shaft...". What did I do wrong? Who has been there?   25. Hi guys, I have to replace the old rubber brake hoses as the left wheel is heating terribly, so I would go for SS hoses. Ireland Engineering have them, but they mention " NOT DOT APPROVED". What is wrong with these hoses?Can't they be used for the road? I will also overhaul the calipers. Where should I buy the kits? Friendly greetings, Michel - Belgium
