5 speed conversion problems. car studders (car jerks)

Hi,

I recently did a 5 speed conversion on my 72 Tii. The car studders meaning it jerks back and forth annoyingly. The worst is when I cruise in 3rd gear @ 2500 rpm. The car jerks so bad im tossed fowards and backwards like nuts!

Anyone have a solution? My guess is something is up with the driveshaft length.

man that sucks!!

have you checked the motor mounts? maybe they were damage when you were installing the five speed.

check the alignment of the Guibo and the drive shaft as well as the center bearing. do a search for the alignment procedure.

did you have to adjust the differential during install? if so check that.

you're gonna have to put it back up on blocks and check it all out, i guess when they say aligment is critical they mean it.

which method(kit) did you use for the trani mount?

Not sure about this but maybe a misaligned clutch disc. I had a Jetta that did the same thing and turns out the clutch disc was somehow misaligned during installation. Though the jetta is very different from an 02 this maybe somewhere to check if you inspect the other more likely stuff and don't find a problem.

i had an reputable mechanic do the fabrication and install.

And the reputable mechanic let you drive away with the car in this condition? He never took the car for a test drive, or correct the situation? Who's the reputable mechanic?

It started happening after driving the car 2 - 3 days after i got it back. I'm gonna take it back and hopefully have him fix it.

Its weird, it never happened to me on the 4 speed tranny.

This really sounds like it's fuel or ignition related to me. Check to make sure all of your spark plug wires are tight at both the plugs and distributor. Check the distributor rotor and cap and make sure they don't look wasted.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
