Seeking rust repair advice

Recommended Posts

My car has had this rust for the 20 years I have had the car and I haven't had a problem but would like to repair it so I could feel good about selling my car some day. This rust is under the rear seat and above where the subframe mount goes on both sides of the car. I don't see any rust from underneath. Has anyone ever patched this area? Of course the gas tank must come out first. I always wondered if the previous owner had an off road experinece that pushed the area up.

be concerned about the cause - where has the water

entered and be sure to cure that. Back window seal?,

rear side fold-out window seals?, sunroof? on your car?,

original location of drain hose (pictured here thanks to Matt

McGinn at http://www.sports-car-restoration.com/

look at his restoration photo gallery) dumps water right

into that corner of the inner rocker boxed in section.

Remove the rear seat, reat side trim panels and start

cleaning down to bare metal to estimate the extent of rot.

Then sit in the rear with a flash light with a garden hose

running water on the roof and watch for the water entry point (s)

The upward denting is from careless shop, improper lifting

arm/jack placement

and I can show you what I did--and probably tell you why it rusted. Bring the Turkis wonder up to Beavercreek and we'll play with it...

cheers
