Seeking Shop (or individual) for Tii Tuning in Tampa Bay

Recommended Posts

I believe there's a guy in Sarasota who's knowledgeable about tii's.  Try PM-ing Zouave--he's in Sarasota, has a tii and has mentioned a person there who I believe has worked on his car.

Outed!  Zouave is my ‘74 tii.  Mike is right that I had a little help setting up my tuna can from an old friend here in Sarasota who is a retired mechanic and needs about 6 months to get around to anything.  I had gone through the entire fuel system changing out lines, hoses, filters, linkages, springs, etc. and I daresay he had gotten it within shouting distance just by ear.  But I saw how high my CO emissions were at idle and thought I needed to mess with it. There ensued a period of months in which I daresay I became the “expert” on tuning the ‘74 KF.

Mind you, it took a lot of replacement parts, fabrication of tools, some machining (new throttle body bushing), replacing the warmup regulator, installing an AFR meter and many hours of measuring, checking, rechecking and cursing every joint of the thing, and erring repeatedly at the procedure for setting the D-cam, only to find in the end that my super-rich idle and super-lean acceleration had more to do with my timing than my fuel system.  My 123 had advance-on-advance due to physical setting.  After getting the timing right and reaaallly learning how to adjust the linkage and set the pin in the KF I got the thing running more or less right. Still needs some gas at cold start, idle is too rich (frighteningly til it warms up) and flutters  up and down by up to 60 rpm at times (should have replaced both throttle body bushings?), but ”liveable” now.

In the end I felt lucky, but  hardly felt like an expert.  In the end, all the useful advice I got was in posts right here on the forum.  This is an incredible resource for the DIYer.

Happy to help you advance your project if I can.  We can discuss options further off line.  PM me if interested.

That is hilarious, Ken.

I knew I saw Zouave somewhere!  I saw it in your signature from your reply on Tuesday to my other post that documented the saga of trying to get this car going.  And that reminded me that you and I went back/forth last June, looking for recommendations then as well!

I'll shoot you a PM... really appreciate it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
