Depending on the year of your car (there are two different turn signal levers, one for squarelights and one for roundies) I did a column on fixing that that should be good for both varieties.

 

The turn signal lever itself shouldn't affect the interior blinker light's operation unless the electrical part of the switch is broken.  That problem is most likely in the flasher relay itself.
