It also fits the 02. I believe that horn ring is removable. There is provision to fit the sprung brass pin horn contact instead of the horn ring. Some of the later NK 2000 Sedans were fitted with this wheel along with E3s and E9s.

25 years ago I removed one of these wheels from an E3 sedan sitting at the local self service salvage yard in the San Fernando Valley. I got it for less than $10. I tried it in one of my 02s, but I don't like the feel of wood steering wheels. So, I removed it and it sat in my room as decoration until a couple of years ago when I gave it away to a friend who owns a clean 1969 2000NK missing its original wheel.

Are you inferring the price is too high and I should give this away? I'm not sure what value your anecdote has on a For Sale post.

No ! I'm not inferring anything, not at all. I've seen these wheels sell for $1,000 +. $500 for a driver quality example such as yours is probably about right in today's market.

I'm just relaying my experience with this wheel. I gave away my wheel to an old friend and enthusiast. And, I'm not in the business of selling parts. I was a picker at the self service salvage yards in Southern California 25-30 years ago. These cars littered the yards in those days and were available either complete or for parts for next to nothing.

If anything, I've provided info which will help you sell this wheel. I've verified through personal experience that this wheel fits the 02 where the horn will function  once you swap out the brass ring for the spring loaded brass pin from your existing 02 wheel. It takes about 5 minutes.

By the way, the BMW 1600-2, 1602 is my specialty. I've owned and worked on these cars for 40+ years. So, what I paid for parts and cars for most of that time is a very different reality from today, as  are many of the people.

And, on a last note, My very clean 1967 1600-2 in Bristol Grey was passed on to me by the original owner who was on death's bed. I helped him for years in sorting out that car. He installed a 2.0L and 5 speed, limited slip etc. before he passed the car on to me. I could probably get top dollar for that car. But, I won't sell it. When the time comes, I'll pass on the tradition and give it away.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
