We’re trying to keep you from making a mistake, with some comic relief thrown in to soften the constructive criticism.

The weight of the 0.25” panels would be around  50lbs by my napkin calculation.  Compared to 0.080 (Which is used in similar industrial panel applications.  thinner options of .074 or less  would also be fine.) at around 11lbs.

Hope no one ever rear ends you hard, kinda like a horizontal guillotine back there

A friend had a '57 MG Magnette sedan, and replaced the plywood trunk floor (spare tire below, luggage above) with a piece of 5/16" steel plate to provide more weight over the rear wheels for Boston winters.  Someone rear ended him and the steel plate pushed the other car's grill into the radiator, then into the fan and engine.  The steel plate wasn't even scratched...

I loved Boeing surplus and miss it,

We had something similar here in Dayton:  Mendelson's Surplus--a 7 story building that once housed the Frigidaire appliance factory, but then full of almost anything you could think of.  Cheapest cold Saturday entertainment for a tinkerer anywhere.  If you looked hard enough, you could find almost anything--including a case of 72 volt light bulbs with Thomas Edison's picture on the box.  They were headlight bulbs for steam locomotives!

Building was sold and remodeled into apartments...sigh.
