84 318 5 getrag speed compatability?

Might have a chance for a fairly priced Getrag 5 speed from a 1984 318i...compatable with my stock 76 2002? Known issues are 2nd gear synchos are not perfect...cheap price, tho, and local. Not sure what repair would run? I'm sure its a "while you are in there...kind of thing"...Appreciate any input.

It's going to be a headache to make it right.

 

Those G240 trans out of the early e30 are easy to find. They work great with the 2002-variant m10, with the biggest achilles heel being that it has no provision for a speedometer cable our 2002s operate on for speed. But there are enough solutions with GPS speedos now that it's a moot point. 

 

 

Find a better one. It will be plenty cheap, and you will be well in the green if you don't want to spend the coin on an earlier g245/G240 trans from an e21.

Probably more than a better 240 would cost you. That’s asuming you could find a decent shop willing to touch it

Thanks, guys, much appreciated...transmission is only $120 and local, so you can understand my thought process...Anyone have one rebuilt lately...cost?
