4 to 5 lug conversion

Recommended Posts

Real question- why?  It's really hard to find 5x120 wheels in sizes you'd need in offsets you can use.  Really hard.

4x100 is everywhere, it's super easy to find all kinds of wheels.

5x120 in 15 or 16 is difficult.  If you're looking for 17 or 18, yeah, sure, no problem, but anything smaller is tough.  Although some of the steel roundie-round wheels can be had in 15- not quite 5x120, not the right center bore, but you can force them to work.

I'm looking at ordering some wheels from the UK custom made to get them to fit properly.

But to answer the question, I bought a car that this had already been done on- and they cut everything to ribbons and installed an entire e30 car underneath the body of the 2002.  Over 700 hours, all documented, at a shop.  And it still needed love when it got here.  I'm sure there are easier ways to do it...

Front: 2002tii Struts w/ E12 5-lug hubs/calipers+vented e21 rotors.

Rear: Custom

[option 1: weld on material and tap existing existing hub.  As done by Andrew T. and Le Tran]

[option 2: machine hub from steel{or whatever} billet.]

[option 3: E30 rear end conversion with 5-lug hubs {*see 2002underground for example}]

As Dave says, plenty of work and/or money involved.  It's been covered here before if you search.

We are slow but steady getting these Rear Trailing Arm kits with 5-lugs ready to go.

FRONT: Working with our hub supplier right now to deliver a non-tii and tii front hub 5x120 option, made from 4140 alloy.

Maybe we need an OE 2002 Rear 5x10 option as well?

Will probably be doing pre-orders for the 5x120 Front Hubs.

Will you be making sealed bearing front hubs in 4x100 bolt pattern?  That would be a terrific upgrade for many of us.  Particularly with big brakes and pad knock-back on the track, which I think is exacerbated by the current hub/bearing.

I'll have to dig into that deeper. It's not off the table! At the very least, we could decrease the hub tolerance to get a tighter bearing fit.

Side note: got your email! I'll follow up there!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
